William GEFFROY (21st century) - Lot 260
William GEFFROY (21st century) Bioluminescent Squid Signed glass vial featuring a white drawn-glass squid, with sections of bioluminescent glass that react to UV light Illuminated base Flame-worked H. 43 cm - D. 10 cm Note: William Geffroy - Glass Artist Originally from Brittany, William Geffroy draws inspiration from his passion for marine flora and fauna to create works of art using a blowtorch, glass rods, and his creativity. With a vocational certificate in neon sign making, he discovered glasswork while working in that field. After several years of honing his craft, he decided to launch his own studio in 2008. Each piece requires several hours of meticulous work. The artist shapes primarily marine-themed creations that are placed in glass cylinders filled with demineralized water, echoing the animals preserved in formaldehyde in the old cabinets of curiosities and scientific collections. In 2020, William Geffroy was awarded the Deyrolle Naturalist Prize as part of the SNA at the Salon des Beaux-Arts for his creations. The artist is a member of the Ateliers d’art de France. Beyond the artistic realm, William Geffroy also collaborates with scientists at museums and aquariums. Thus, his works serve as a bridge between the living world and art.
