Dudley ADAMS (1762–1830) Library celestial globe by Dudley ADAMS on its stand, with a spacer compass Beautiful globe featuring a dedication to King George III with the address 60 Fleet Street in London The globe is in perfect condition, with fresh colors and exquisite craftsmanship, featuring constellations, stars, and a calendar… The table features a zodiacal calendar The entire piece is equipped with a brass armillary sphere mounted on an hour circle George III period, circa 1796–1817 H. (total) 82 cm (restorations and missing parts) Note: Sons of globe maker George Adams Sr. (1709–1772), Dudley Adams and his brother George Jr. were trained by their mother in the craft of cartography at the family shop on Charing Cross following their father’s death. Having become an apprentice in 1777, Dudley took over the shop in 1788. In 1796, he moved to Fleet Street, under the sign “Tycho Brahe’s Head,” until 1817, when he relocated to St. Paul’s Churchyard to venture into electromedicine. The business ceased operations after Dudley’s death in 1830. Dudley Adams was optician to the Prince of Wales and globe maker to the king.
