William GEFFROY (21st century) - Lot 410
William GEFFROY (21st century) Speckled seahorse (hippocampus guttulatus) Animal living on the Atlantic coast Signed glass vial featuring a male seahorse in iridescent colored glass, on a luminous base. Flame-worked H. 30.5 cm - Diam. 8 cm Note : William Geffroy - Glass artist A native of Brittany, France, William Geffroy draws on his passion for marine flora and fauna to create works of art using a blowtorch, glass rods and his own creativity. With a neonist's CAP, he discovered glasswork in this environment. After several years of perfecting his skills, he decided to launch his own studio in 2008. Each creation requires several hours of meticulous work. The artist gives form to mainly marine creations, which are placed in glass cylinders filled with demineralized water, echoing the animals preserved in formalin in old curiosity and scientific cabinets. In 2020, William Geffroy won the Deyrolle naturalist prize at the Salon des Beaux-arts in Paris for his creations. The artist is a member of Ateliers d'art de France. William Geffroy also works with scientists in museums and aquariums. In this way, his work bridges the gap between art and the living world.
