Precious manuscript document containing several wills of the CARACCIOLO family, one of Italy's most powerful and ancient noble houses from the ancient kingdom of Naples. Giacomo DEPONTE (State or court of the feudal and burgher property of Mr. Giacomo Deponte, Duke of Casa Massima). V.I.D. Andreas de Conciliis fecit Anno 1697. 2 vols. large in- folio, cold-stamped bas. on boards (Binding very worn and roughly restored). Fine, elegant late 17th-century Italian cursive calligraphy on watermarked laid paper. The first volume features a handsome baroque pen-and-ink frontispiece illustrated with putti, grotesque mask and ornamental acanthus leaves, 113 ff. decorated with 74 lettrines and initials and 12 culs-de-lampe with floral and animal motifs or drawn angel heads. The second volume (43 ff.) features 30 initials and 2 lamp-ends. These cartularies-inventories establish and list the various land deeds of the del Ponte family, covering transfers, transactions, sales, purchases, donations and wills from 1697 to 1713. Now rare, these private inventory documents are of historical interest for their genealogical indications, as well as artistic interest for the lettering and the culs de lampe decorating the 2 manuscript collections. Half red bas. folio, gilt title on spine (Period binding). Manuscript with 16 carefully calligraphed pages, including the title. The text in French and Spanish presents 16 articles detailing the statutes and missions of the consuls. The ratifications bear the names of Léonce Levraud and Jacinto Gutierrez. The consular convention is "Fait et arrêté en double original dans cette ville de Caracas , le vingt quatre octobre de l'année de notre Seigneur mil huit cent cinquante six." Enclosed: -CERTIFICATE MANUSCRIT in- 4 oblong signed by José Fadeo Monagas, President of the Republic of Venezuela attesting to the appointment of the French consul in Caracas, dated February 3, 1857 countersigned by the Secretary of External Relations. Stamp. -Autograph letter in English, one and a half pages in-8. Lima, February 9, 1855. From the English chargé d'affaires of the British Legation to the French chargé d'affaires Monsieur Levrault. Letter of thanks for his intervention in putting an end to a series of insulting articles published in Lima. Enclosed copy translating the text. - One-page in-8 letter from the Ministère de l'Instruction Publique et des Beaux Arts. Relating to an order that cannot be fulfilled.
