Wood and brass model of the French battleship "Le République" (1902-1921) Attractive model with patina and quality of construction (turrets, lifeboats, decks and chimneys, portholes, etc.), despite its rough appearance. Made by a boilermaker in the style of a master craftsman. In a wooden display case with five glass sides French folk art, early 20th century 72 x 42 x 39 cm (one canoe missing) Enclosed: A model of a French submarine (probably a FARFADET class from 1902-1906) by the same craftsman and from the same period. Note: This pre-dreadnought vessel, designed at the Brest arsenal, sailed in the Mediterranean, particularly in Greece and the Adriatic. Pre-dreadnought is the term used to designate battleships built between the mid-1890s and 1905 to replace the first battleships of the 1870s-1880s.
