François Joseph Frédéric ROUX (1805-1870) Watercolor depicting a schooner, with French flag and another boat, signed lower right and dated 1828 in Marseille Early 19th century Framed 84 x 66 cm (with frame) Note: François Joseph Roux was the second son of Marseille painter Ange-Joseph Antoine Roux. He soon began working in the family workshop, learning shipbuilding and painting. An avid traveler, he settled in Le Havre in 1830 and was awarded a gold medal for courage at sea. The Roux dynasty was an important family of painters between the end of the 18th century and 1882, specializing in the depiction of boats.
