Prague, circa 1860-1870 H. 35 - Diam. 15 cm (knocks) Note: Otto DELITSCH was one of the main cartographers for the Felkl globe company. In particular, he was responsible for developing the color brown to identify high mountains. Felkl was founded by Jan Felkl (1817-1887) in 1850, succeeding Merklas in Prague. The factory rapidly expanded (from 500 globes a year in 1855 to over 15,000 in 1873) and became one of the Austro-Hungarian Empire's most important suppliers, supplying the court, schools, industries, etc. In 1870, the factory moved to Roztok and became Felkl & son with the arrival of Jan's son. Following the dissolution of the Empire, the factory disappeared in 1952.
