Black-painted wooden lampwork token board with 90 hooks (9 c - Lot 24
Black-painted wooden lampwork token board with 90 hooks (9 columns and 10 columns) containing various mine tokens. Each slot is numbered from 501 to 600 The table contains around 120 mining tokens from various European mines and sources (H&C, DOUAI, BATES, Zawadzki, Sevenes, Kopalnia Dymitron, NCB, Grodzec, Lemarier, Gayant, Brassac, Snibston, ...). The tokens are of various periods, materials and shapes, but all are of the same type, with an identification number and the name of the company. 80 x 69 cm Attached is a wooden sign reading "LAMPISTERIE" and a set of tokens and substitute coins from the 17th and 19th centuries, France and England. Note: When a miner went down into the mine, he exchanged a token for a lamp and sometimes a firedamp meter. At the end of the shift, each miner returned his lamp and token before changing in the hanging room. In this way, the token board could be used at any time to check how many miners were in the mine and who was missing (in the event of an accident). The colors of the tokens indicated the shifts and periods (morning, evening, etc.). Each token thus bears witness to a miner, a company, an era... and was also used to calculate miners' wages according to days worked. Introduced in the 19th century, the token is still used in some mines around the world. In France, the last token was created in 2004.
