ITALIAN MANUSCRIT from the late 17th and early 18th centurie - Lot 110
ITALIAN MANUSCRIT from the late 17th and early 18th centuries - Stato seu platea dell' effetti et fevdali et burgensatici delle Ill' Sig. D. Giacomo DEPONTE (State or court of the feudal and burgher property of Mr. Giacomo Deponte, Duke of Casa Massima). V.I.D. Andreas de Conciliis fecit Anno 1697. 2 vols. large in- folio, cold-stamped bas. on boards (Binding very worn and roughly restored). Fine, elegant late 17th-century Italian cursive calligraphy on watermarked laid paper. The first volume features a handsome baroque pen-and-ink frontispiece illustrated with putti, grotesque mask and ornamental acanthus leaves, 113 ff. decorated with 74 lettrines and initials and 12 culs-de-lampe with floral and animal motifs or drawn angel heads. The second volume (43 ff.) features 30 initials and 2 lamp-ends. These cartularies-inventories establish and list the various land deeds of the del Ponte family, covering transfers, transactions, sales, purchases, donations and wills from 1697 to 1713. Now rare, these private inventory documents are of historical interest for their genealogical indications, as well as artistic interest for the lettering and the culs de lampe decorating the 2 manuscript collections. Significant wetness.
