Madeleine GRENIER (1929-1982) - Lot 113
Madeleine GRENIER (1929-1982) Composition Oil on canvas signed lower right and dated 60 24 x 16 cm As early as 1954, Madeleine GRENIER's painting aroused interest in the art world, which saw in her an innovative painter in terms of both thought and technique, who never lost sight of the subject of destructured architecture. Exhibited as part of the École de Paris (alongside STAËL, SOULAGES and HARTUNG), at Galerie Harnosand in Sweden, Galerie Dupont in Lille, Salon de Mai and Salon des Réalités Nouvelles (founded by MONDRIAN). Bought by the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Fond National d'Art Contemporain and the Musée du Havre, among others, her canvases are stripped down to white, blue, yellow, grey-browns, grey-violets and blue-greens. "Rather than monochromes, we should speak of cameos, where colors are organized around a dominant tone. White allows Madeleine Grenier to attenuate the clatter of existence, muffle sounds, erase contours and finally reveal a purity." Alex Hémery, Curator, Musée d'Alès
