Important and very old Bakcheich About 1870 Heriz region Northwest Persia Dimensions 570 x 348 cm Wool velvet on cotton foundation (Wear, natural oxidation) Bakcheich rugs are highly prized and sought-after on the international market. Their color qualities, with a palette of sky-blue and brick-orange, correspond to very refined decorations Brick field decorated with geometrically stylized palmettes and floral bulbs in polychrome, framing a large central hexagonal ivory medallion inlaid with multiple symbols representative of the soil, including stylized insects, crabs and tarantulas. Note the sky-blue backdrop with a design reminiscent of the central field, forming four spandrels with stylized flowers and foliage.
