Tapestry "Chasse avec un bestiaire fantastique" attributed t - Lot 68
Tapestry "Chasse avec un bestiaire fantastique" attributed to Enghien, and to the workshop of Philippe van des Cammen (1540-1601) circa 1589-1600, late 16th century Height 2.08 m - Width 3.60 m This tapestry depicts a hunting scene in a forest, with a mix of characters and various native and exotic animals. These typical forest scenes, often embellished with pergolas and water features, are known as boscaiges, and appeared around 1575. Although this tapestry has no border or mark, its decoration suggests that it was made in Enghien, in the workshop of Philippe van der Cammen. It bears many similarities to a tapestry in the Maison Jonathas in Enghien. Unlike the latter, the Maison Jonathas tapestry bears the arms of the Croy-Lalaing family. Very fashionable, this type of cardboard was already used by François Geubels in Brussels. Condition: one square rewoven at lower left, restorations Landscapes by the Lissiers d'Enghien. Michel Demoortel collection. King Baudoin Foundation 2011 p.11-23 G.Delmarcel. La tapisserie du XVème au XVIIIème siècle. Lanoo 1999 p.173
