France LEPLAT (1895 - 1953) was an artist from northern France. After a childhood steeped in the arts, she studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille from 1913. After graduating in both painting and sculpture, she moved to Paris and settled in "La Ruche" in 1919. She became a pupil of the sculptor who founded this artists' commune, Alfred BOUCHER (1850 - 1934). She belongs to the École de Paris. In 1928, she travelled to England, where she painted many portraits of famous people. Nevertheless, her favorite subjects were her family, in particular her daughter Géraldine, whose portraits - baby, child and young girl - are abundant. She also painted extensively the landscapes of Brittany, where she was a regular visitor. Finally, inspired by her daughter's ballet training, she sketched dancers, particularly flamenco dancers. France LEPLAT died in 1953, leaving behind an artistic legacy celebrated in the 1970s with several exhibitions (Zurich and Meudon) and rediscovered in the 2010s thanks to an exhibition at the Musée du Montparnasse in 2008.
