Balsa model of the Russian Kliper spacecraft project - 1/50 - Lot 153
Balsa model of the Russian Kliper spacecraft project - 1/50 D. (Base 1) 32 x 10 cm - (Base 2) 25 x 10.5 cm - L. (models) 21 cm In 2004, the Russian Federal Space Agency proposed replacing the venerable Soyuz spacecraft with a concept for a partially reusable spacecraft capable of carrying up to six passengers. There were two proposals. One was a Lifting Body and the other a spaceplane with small wings. Despite a planned and studied collaboration with the European Space Agency, the project was abandoned in 2007. The two models (1/50 scale) were built in 2005 entirely in balsa wood. The two versions are presented on two separate pedestals featuring a scale silhouette of a Soyuz spacecraft. Both models can be displayed on the adapter section of the launcher's third stage, where the rescue equipment in the event of launch failure can be seen. In September 2005, the winged version of the model performed several parabolas during a Novespace campaign, enabling Kliper to experience weightlessness!
