MIR station base unit control box numbered "17KC 10 Ю 2 416- - Lot 149
MIR station base unit control box numbered "17KC 10 Ю 2 416-0, ППC-1, N 10351623". The 17KC code is traditionally the one used for MIR station supplies. The inside of the case is in perfect condition and everything appears to be original. The object comes from the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Centre in Moscow and was donated by the Khrunichev team in 1998. In 2002, the box was dedicated on the fuse access door by Alexander A. SEREBROV 23 x 22 x 12 cm Alexandre A.Serebrov (1944 - 2013), Russian cosmonaut between 1978 and 1995. He logged 372 mission days aboard the MIR station and performed 10 spacewalks, a record for the time. Note 2: MIR (Russian for "peace") is a space station designed by the USSR in 1986 and deliberately destroyed in 2001. Considered the first modular space station, at 124 tonnes it was the largest object assembled in space until the ISS (which totals 400 tonnes). Thanks to this station, numerous advances were made (notably in space travel, module assembly techniques, microgravity, etc.). With its seven modules, it could accommodate a crew of 3. At first, the astronauts were Russians, but gradually foreigners were able to take part (including twelve Europeans).
