HAVERHILL'S mechanical shaver - Lot 142
HAVERHILL'S mechanical shaver Made in Monaco (marked "BREVETE SGDG .... MADE IN MONACO"), distributed in the USA 12 x 8 x 7 cm Starting with the Apollo 14 mission, the crew was equipped with a major innovation: a mechanical razor (spring-loaded). After a series of tests, NASA chose a model manufactured in Monaco and distributed in the USA by Haverhill's of San Francisco, who were very proud of this choice. Two of the crew members (Shepard and Mitchell) on the first mission to have one used it, and a 16mm film was made on board. The razor was opaque and black in color. It seems that at least two of the last three missions were equipped with it, but obviously only AP 14 used it. Curiously, the Smithsonian Institution, which manages the loan of Apollo objects worldwide, offers the consumer model shown here on loan. This model works perfectly.
