High-relief panel. Terracotta proof. Pot mortem edition, 1965, following the deluxe edition of the artist's monograph by Janiou et Dufet. Presented in its original box lined with gray suede. BOURDELLE (for Cléopâtre Bourdelle-Sevastos, widow of the artist) will be given to the purchaser. Historical background: Our high-relief panel is one of a series of thirteen terracotta bas-reliefs, ten of which were produced in 1965 to coincide with the publication of the deluxe edition of Ionel Janiou and Michel Dufet's monograph on Bourdelle. These bas-reliefs were based on plaster casts and projects produced by the artist in 1927 to illustrate the book Démosthène written by Georges Clémenceau - who chose Bourdelle for his strong Hellenism. Originally numbering fifteen, they were later translated into wood for printing by J. L. Perrichon.
