Le Frappement de Rocher" tapestry from the History of Moses hanging, attributed to Sébastien Bourdon (1616-1671), painter in Aubusson Ateliers de la Manufacture Royale d'Aubusson, second half of the 17th century. Height: 238 - Width: 276 cm This fragment of the "Le Frappement de Rocher" tapestry is part of the Moses hanging inspired by Charles Le Brun (1619-1690) and Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), who illustrated the History of Moses woven at the Gobelins manufactory. This is the episode from the Book of Exodus, 17: a scene depicting Moses striking a rock from which water gushes out to quench his people's thirst, just as the subject of La Manne nourishes these people. The other main subjects of this hanging are the Bronze Serpent, the Burning Bush and the Golden Calf. This is a version woven by the Aubusson factory. Mathieu Somon.
