ERNST (Max). Histoire naturelle. Paris, Jeanne Bucher, 1926. In-folio in blue half cloth publisher's lace-up card folder, title label on upper cover. First edition with a preface by Arp. Complete with 34 phototypeset plates based on Max Ernst's original rubbings obtained by applying lead pencil to various surfaces of paper sheets. The artist drew inspiration from various plant materials (plants, foliage) to create fantastical landscapes and creatures from his imagination. Limited edition of 250 copies, signed by the artist; this is one of 30 numbered copies on Vélin d'Arches. Some yellowing on the edges of certain plates and on the upper cover.
