MF MANUFRANCE (1887 - ...)
TYPO (1900-1940) cast-iron and steel calculating machine from 1914 with ZHJAY configuration. The lid with handle is inscribed "TYPO VISIBLE MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE D'ARMES & CYCLES DE SAINT ETIENNE" with the factory's MF logo.

The ZHJAY system appeared in France in 1907, following the Albert Navarre commission's concern about the efficiency of the AZERTY keyboard (derived from QWERTY). It was a new keyboard standard developed for French. However, it failed to catch on and was soon abandoned, with only TYPO using the standard in 1914, as the company's sales catalog shows.
