Portuguese light cavalry saber based on the French AN XI mod - Lot 195
Portuguese light cavalry saber based on the French AN XI model. Mounted in bronze decorated with lines and wood. Hunter-style mounting, oval cap joined to the hilt. Flat joint bow with two secondary limbs, diamond-shaped cruise and slightly curved drop-shaped quillon. Squared wooden spindle. Throated curved blade engraved one-third of the way up with a cartouche reading "VIVA EL REY DE Portugal", trophies of arms and interlacing. Iron scabbard with two suspension rings (oxidation and cleaning). Portugal, circa 1810
