MONTAIGNE (Michel de). Essays. New edition. Paris : Desoer, 1818. - In-8, half red morocco, spine ribbed and decorated, untrimmed (Thouvenin). Beautiful edition printed on two columns and in very small characters, decorated with a portrait of the author in frontispiece. It was published by the masonic writer François-Henri-Stanislas de L Lot of books including : Aulnaye (1759-1830). Desoer gave at the same time an edition with the same characters in 4 volumes in-18, and another in 9 volumes in-32 for the Bibliothèque portative du voyageur. A very nice copy bound by Thouvenin, in rare condition. The spine is slightly faded. Some foxing. Provenance: Robert Galoppe, with bookplate drawn by P. Collin. HUYSMANS (Joris Karl). The Bièvre. Paris : Société de propagation des livres d'art, 1901. - In-8, dark green half-chagrin with corners, gilt filets, spine ribbed and decorated, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved (binding of the time). Deluxe edition printed at 695 numbered copies, illustrated with 30 woodcuts in the text and 4 etchings outside the text by Auguste LEPÈRE (1849-1918). One of 600 copies on wove paper. Spine and upper edge of the first plate faded. LA MENNAIS (Félicité de). L'Imitation de Jésus-Christ, new translation, by M. l'abbé F. de La Mennais, with reflections at the end of each chapter. New edition. Paris : Librairie classique-élémentaire, 1825. - In-8, light tan calf, cold and gilt framing and cold restoration plate in the center of the boards, spine with false nerves decorated, gilt roulette inside, gilt edges (Joublin). Uncommon romantic edition of Félicité de La Mennais' translation. It is illustrated with 5 hors texte compositions engraved on copper from drawings by Devéria. One of the copies on large vellum paper, including the figures before the letter on chine glued. Rare contemporary binding signed by the Parisian bookbinder Joublin who practiced from the 1820s until at least 1849. Spine faded, some minor rubbing from use, corners slightly dulled. Some foxing. Provenance: Marquis Guillaume de Lespine, with bookplate.
