CHAS-LABORDE (1886 - 1941) LE MUR DES LAMENTATIONS, circa 1938 Unsigned captioned ink 29 x 20 cm Provenance: Chas Laborde, Bernay sale 27 April 2002 n°53 (reproduced in the Laughter according to the catalogue) This drawing is one of the most interesting political caricatures by the artist, author of the special issue of the Laughter "If I were a dictator" denouncing the rise of Nazism. This work, which can be dated to the end of the 1930s, is unfortunately still relevant to the multiple origins of anti-Semitism. Chas Laborde's approach to the subject is surprising!
