[LEGEND OF THE FLAMENDS] The legend of the Flamen, artisians and haynuyers: or otherwise their abbreviated cronicle In which are contained several hystories of France, England and Germany. Withqs the genealogies and descendants of the kings of Naples and Sicily who reigned in four Iuscan nations at present: Ascauoir Normans, Germans, Francoys and Arragonoys, but also viscontes, princes and dukes of Myllan who reigned in four Iuscan nations at present. And the right and tiltre that the Christian kings of France have as much to the kingdom and crown of Naples and Sicily as to the duche and state of Milan. They sell in Paris, in the rue Sainct Jacques under the sign of Sainct Claude (Chez Fr. Regnault), 1522; pet. in-4, half green mar., gilded title and date on the ornamented and gilded back (Rel. du XIXe). RARE FIRST EDITION. Title in red and black in gothic characters with a grotesque face lettering at the beginning of the title xylographed in red on two lines. This work published the day after the Camp du Drap d'or is dedicated to Louise de Savoie, mother of Francis I; it traces the origins of the peoples of Flanders, Artois and Hainaut since the baptism of Clovis. The illustration includes four large woods: Charles VIII's entry into Naples, the author's entry into his writing room and two battle and siege scenes. The small in-text woods evoke the baptism of Clovis and represent King Philip Augustus, Louis XI Ancient handwritten annotation after the colophon. Incomplete white leaves. Some marginal wet spots.
