PHOTO HOLDER PENDANT in gold (750‰) and platinum (850‰), depicting the Blessed Virgin in prayer in a blue enamel frame "updated replica" surrounded by three pearls. The halo and the belly are set with a diamond rose paving. The back is carved with a decoration of a bouquet of roses and lilies. Signed F.VERNON Brutto weight: 30.4 g. Height: 3.9 cm. (missing a rose with a belly button) A comparable copy is kept in the British Museum under the reference 1978,1002.996 Frederic de Vernon, famous medallist of the late 19th century, won the Prix de Rome in 1887 and after working in Italy, he returned to France where he regularly exhibited at the Salons de la Société des Artistes Français. In 1900, he won the Gold Medal of the Universal Exhibition and was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour. Member of the Academy of Fine Arts and professor at the National School of Fine Arts, replacing his master J-C. Chaplain, the work of F. de Vernon is considerable. EVE
