18th century FLORENTINE school, follower of Giuseppe ZOCCHI Villa de Castelpulci in Scandicci Gouache on canvas 102 x 183 cm Missing and lifted No frame A sumptuous villa in the province of Florence, overlooking the Arno valley, the Villa di Castelpulci is one of those grand Florentine residences whose ornaments and outbuildings reflect the opulence and elegance of the Riccardi family. Purchased in 1321 by Cardinal Napoleone Orsini, the structure of the villa underwent only minor alterations until the Riccardi family took over ownership in 1667. Under the direction of the Baroque architect Giovacchino Fortini, a series of extensions were then undertaken, lasting until the 18th century. It was during this period that the spectacular facade seen here was added.
