Paternité Kaka, Cameroon, wood, crusty patina - Lot 195
Paternité Kaka, Cameroon, wood, crusty patina H.38cmxW.10cm (plinth) Among the Kaka who live in western Cameroon in the Mbem region, south of the Mambila, the creations of these works are linked to ancestor veneration. Harter (1994: 47). "Ancestor veneration seems to have a primordial place for them. It is supervised by the wantop, one of the members of the chief's council, as part of the liturgies of the mbir male secret society. The crusty patina on the actual figure indicates a long period of ritual use.
