WELLES Orson. - Lot 172
WELLES Orson. Typescript with handwritten annotations, Confidential Report, [1954]; 214 pages in-4 in cloth binder in-fol. Complete typescript of the script and dialogue for the film Confidential Report / Mr Arkadin (in French Dossier secret) used for editing. A note at the head of the file specifies that this typescript was used during the year-long editing of the film at the LTC laboratory in Saint-Cloud; producer Louis Dolivet eventually took the film away from Welles to make a more commercial cut (which Welles disowned), and market the film. This document bears witness to Welles' desired cut. This typescript is in 2 columns, the right-hand one with the dialogue, the other for the cut and didascalia. There are numerous handwritten corrections and indications, as well as a few sketches. 2 set photographs are included. Another binder containing 2 mimeographed typescripts for the film Othello (February 1954) is enclosed: - "Dialogue Continuity" (40 p.), and "Cutting Continuity" (52 p.). Expert: Thierry BODIN
