Pair of turtle-doves in copper alloy with brown patina, Japa - Lot 89
Pair of turtle-doves in copper alloy with brown patina, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Worked with very naturalistic modeling, one at rest with inflated plumage, the other with spread wings, feathers finely chased and eyes inlaid with shakudo and gold. Set in a root base. One signed in a square seal Nihon koku Maruki sei ?????? (made by Maruki of Japan). The Maruki workshop was located in Sukiya street, in Tokyo's Nihonbashi district. It produced high-quality bronzes and sculptures during the Meiji era, and took part in numerous national and international exhibitions. One wing repaired, crack on the side of the beak. The root base is probably not original, threaded rods were later mounted under the birds' legs to secure them to the base. H. 42 cm - L. 30 cm
