DUBOIS Paul (1829-1905) Florentine singer, 1865 Barbédienne cast, mechanical reduction A.COLLAS BREVETE Second half of the 19th century Bronze on marble base Height 65 cm One of the leading Florentine sculptors, Paul Dubois depicts Quattrocento figures in an idealized manner. This edition of the 'Florentine Singer' won him a first prize for sculpture in 1865. Straight out of a Botticelli painting, and with a pose that the Dutch painter Frans Hals would not have denied, this bronze Florentine Singer is also characteristic of eclectic taste in France at the end of the 19th century.
