Fragments of a soap-stitch carpet decorated with winged dragons facing each other on a brown background, beautiful polychrome border, late 18th, early 19th century, France. Dimensions : Former border of a carpet, worn and missing, sold as is. 400 x 485 cm The dragon theme can be found on a soap-stitch carpet preserved in the Château de Villarceaux, (Vexin) and was also treated in England by the Axminster manufactory after a design attributed to Robert Jones (1817-1823) for the grand salon of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.
