Simon Louis BOIZOT (1743-1809) for the Manufacture de SEVRES "Les Noirs libres" or "La liberté des Nègres" (The freedom of Negroes) Rare allegorical cookie group depicting "The Abolition of Slavery" in the guise of a couple of black people seated on a stele. The draped man wears a Phrygian cap with the revolutionary cockade (symbol of freed slaves in Roman times). The woman wears a dress revealing her breasts. She is wearing a square and plumb bob (Maconic allegory of equality). Inscription on the base: "Me equal to you, me free too". Incised mark F or 8 Model of 1794 Height 23 cm - Width 16 cm (accidents and missing parts, old restorations) A similar model is preserved at the "Musée du Nouveau Monde" in La Rochelle (Inv. 1983.4-2, acquired at public sale in 1983).
