Jean-Pierre MAURY (1932 - 2021) - Lot 117
Jean-Pierre MAURY (1932 - 2021) Angels and Demons Hecate Two mixed techniques (wax, resin and plaster) in high relief on medallion panels 58 x 49 cm Commentary on Angels and Demons by the artist: Eternal antagonism of two principles, two systems, opposition of the forces of good and those of evil. Inconceivable love of Truth and Reason in the frolics of mercury and sulfur. Commentary on Hecate by the artist: Hecate, known as the triple one, is the lunar and chtonian goddess of the fertility cult, and in opposition, goddess of nocturnal terrors, of spectres and terrifying monsters, magician, mistress of sorcery. Here we see three phases of lunar evolution: Growth: youth represented by Cora, the young virgin. Decrease : the woman represented by Persephone, the Nymph. Disappearance : the old woman represented by Hecate. The night is symbolized by the little rabbits under the fig tree. (Forbidden to under 18 years old)
