ARCLAIS de MONTAMY (D. Fr. d'). A treatise on colours for enamel painting and on porcelain, preceded by The Art of painting on enamel. Paris, Cavelier, 1765. In-12 Fawn calf, spine gilt and decorated. (Binding of the time worn.) Posthumous work, published by Diderot. The author, placed under the Duke of Orleans, whose first Maître d'Hôtel he was appointed, practiced mathematics, experimental physics and chemistry. The Art of painting, which precedes, was done under the eyes of M. Durand, painter of the Duke of Orleans, and "teacher" of M. de Montamy. Didier-François d'Arclais de Montamy had been a friend of Diderot since at least 1755. In 1765, it is Diderot who will publish his Traité de couleurs pour la peinture en émail et sur la porcelaine. Historical and descriptive essay on glass painting, ancient and modern, and on the most remarkable stained glass windows of some French and foreign monuments; followed by the biography of the most famous glass painters. Decorated with 7 folding plates. Rouen Edouard Frère 1832. In-8 contemporary fawn half calf, spine gilt. Mottling. Damage to the upper cover.
