Rare brass surveyor's instrument signed Clerget in Paris at the Buterfield. Rectangular openworked plate, engraved on a short side of a scale at sector 21-0-21, with a central box protecting the plumb line. On the other side, a double scale from 0 to 180 degrees. A folding pinnula-alloy mounted in the centre works on both ladders. Missing the compass and some screws. First apprentice of E.Desblois (1754), and P.A.Lasnier (1742), Clerget became a master in the foundrymen's guild on November 29th 1759 and worked on the sign "au But(t)erfield" until his death in 1779. Period: end of the 18th century. Dim: 33 cm long and 18 cm wide.
