An important chest of drawers inlaid with... - Lot 400 - Euvrard & Fabre
An important chest of drawers inlaid with pastoral attributes, fruit baskets and ewer on a "tobacco" wood background in amaranth frames underlined with boxwood fillets; the curved sides, as well as the side panels, inlaid with rosettes in trompe-l'oeil lozenges. It opens with five drawers, two of which are wide without crossbars. Beautiful chased and gilded bronze ornamentation such as gadrooned friezes, canals, scraps, pearled frames, scrolled clogs... Beautiful Parisian work from the end of the 19th century after a model attributed to Jean-Henri Riesener. Breche marble top (restored). Height 100 - Width 166 - Depth 65.5 cm The original composition of the piece of furniture we are proposing is directly inspired by an identical model chest of drawers which was acquired in 1804 by the Imperial Garde-Meuble for the Palace of Fontainebleau and is still kept in this same castle (illustrated in C. Baulez, "La bibliothèque de Louis XVI à Versailles et son remeublement", in Versailles, deux siècles d'histoire de l'art, Etudes et chroniques de Christian Baulez, 2007, p.145, fig.19).
